Qualities of Pepper Shot Sprays

The active ingredient in all Pepper Shot Sprays is oleoresin capsicum (OC), which is made from peppers such as cayenne and habanero. The OC causes shortness of breath, coughing, choking, sneezing and an overwhelming sense of panic in an attacker. It also causes severe skin irritation – but it won’t penetrate through clothing or jewelry. When the effects are felt by the attacker, they will have a strong burning sensation around their mouth, nose and eyes which they can’t possibly ignore until your help arrives or until several minutes go by without any further exposure to the OC spray.
